The Route We Take

The Railroad

The model of the Northern Delaware Railroad Company starts at the Port of Wilmington and passes through an industrial area and rail yard before heading to the Wilmington passenger terminal. It then heads to Newark, DE, and passes by the Blue Hen brewery. Next comes Rising Sun, MD, with a power and an asphalt plant before reaching Conowingo, MD, where there is a small yard, a quarry, and industrial sidings. The line then climbs a long grade and reaches East Hagerstown, MD, running by an industrial area and passenger station before passing the Hagerstown classification yard with an engine service yard for both steam and diesel locomotives. Leaving the Hagerstown area, the main line now heads up a steep mountain grade over the Potomac River Bridge to Winchester, Virginia before reaching the end of the main line at Strasburg Yard, VA. Strasburg, VA has a passenger terminal, local industries and a connection to the Southern Railway. In addition, there is a branch line leading to a large coal mine and a branch line leading to a logging operation.
